Measurement Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Calculate the Area of N-sided Figure

How do I figure out the area of an N sided figure?  For example, the area of a six-sided figure.  The sides have lengths of 4, 6, 9, 3, and 5.

The area of this figure depends upon the angles of the sides as well as the length of each side.  You will have to divide the figure into more-basic shapes, such as triangles, rectangles, squares, etc.  Calculate the area of each of those more-basic shapes, then add up their areas.
